Yesterday I finally watched "Atonement". For a long time I was avoiding this film because I heard it was very emotional, but in the end I decided to give it a try.
The setting was simple but cosy: my room, only one lamp on, a big mug of tea and a warm blanket. Outside it was raining a little, and somehow it really fit the mood of the film.
The story is about a young girl, Briony, who sees something between her sister Cecilia and a young man, Robbie, but understands it in the wrong way. Because of her lie, two lives are destroyed. The whole time I was thinking: how can one small mistake change so many things?
The strongest scene for me was Dunkirk on the beach. It is long, loud and really sad. I read later that it was filmed in one shot, and now I want to watch it again just to notice all the details.
When the film ended, I sat in silence for a few minutes. I will not spoil the ending, but it really surprised me. A beautiful film — but next time I will probably choose a comedy.
